I obviously have a soft spot for all things feline, but I also appreciate fine art when I come across it. These origami cats combine the two beautifully and I couldn’t help but share them with you.
If you’re not familiar with Origami, it is the ancient art of Japanese paperfolding that dates back to the 1600’s, where it was first referenced in a poem by Ihara Saikaku in 1680. True masters of origami choose to start with one square of paper, and avoid cutting and gluing of any kind.
Thankfully, modern folk have continued to create their own incredible origami – and we’ve tried to find the very best origami cats that exist on the web for you. Let’s get started!
12. Tuxedo Cat, Origami Style
Tuxedo cats are one of the most common coat varieties you’ll find, and this origami cat is a beautiful example! I love how he looks almost fluid, which is exactly how any proper cat should be. We all know how cats seem to fit in just about anything.
11. Mummy Cat, Paper Cat
This origami cat almost looks like a mummy, which is actually very fitting! If you’ve ever read up on Egyptian culture, you’ll find out that cats were very much revered. After their death, they were often carefully wrapped and preserved as mummies out of respect.
10. Orange Tuxedo Origami Cat
We’ve already seen a tuxedo cat, so let’s try another common and well-loved color variety – the orange tuxedo origami cat. I’d personally love to have the pair of them side by side on my mantle.
9. If You Give Them Wings…
This pair is especially touching if you’ve ever lost a beloved kitty over the Rainbow Bridge in your lifetime. If the artist was able to make each of these from a single sheet of paper, I’m especially impressed!
8. Siamese Scramble
Haha, the artist got the typical siamese expression down purrfectly in this origami cat! Ok, so maybe this pose and look is pretty typical of just about any cat. That’s just part of why we love them, right?
7. Mighty Origami!
We don’t have to stick with just the household variety of felines, do we? This origami cat is beyond majestic, and I’m really digging the color scheme! This is entire new level of art altogether.
